Pimping, much like medicine, is a complex mixture of art and science.
Every attending and resident who pimps has had a different experience of clinical pimping that shapes their approach and attitudes about the activity. Some use it a genuine teaching tool, some to assess knowledge, while others were taught to use it to show dominance. Regardless of intent, medical students can use the opportunity to learn, and even show-off with the right preparation! With a little shot of adrenaline from the public pop-quiz, the answer sticks in long-term memory much better than just about any other study mode.
It’s time to take back Pimping from an activity that causes stress and anxiety, to a truly useful learning mechanism for students and residents of all levels!
We’ve developed a highly curated study-aid to help medical students excel when being pimped.
There are few resources to help stressed medical students truly prepare for the experience of getting pimped. The resources that do exist are often scattered, out of date, and inconvenient. We wanted a study tool that was comprehensive, current, and most of all, convenient! So we created Pimped!
At the surface, Pimped is a flashcard-based medical study app. Dig deeper, and you’ll discover that it is purpose-built to help medical students shine during clinical pimping, making one of medical education’s most stressful and controversial practices child’s play.
This app is only as good as its content – which is why we’ve assembled a team of top attending and resident physicians to review, curate, and tag every question in the Pimped Question Bank.
When time is precious, it’s all about convenience. Have only 10 minutes between cases? Great, that’s enough to study. No matter where you are (or whether you even have Wi-Fi), you can still review and prepare with Pimped.
You already know that spaced repetition is the ideal way to retain information. But personalized spaced repetition is the key to learning efficiency with Pimped.
Procedures, whether at the bedside or in the operating room, can be one of the most intimidating clinical situations for pimping. But it’s also one of the most convenient times for Attendings to pimp, so it’s here to stay. Unlike heavy written texts or even pocket guides, we’ve designed all the data in PimpedApp to be filterable and searchable…in other words, findable.
While in this view, you can also indicate if you’ve been pimped on a certain question, so our curators can stay on top of nationwide trends and ensure our question banks evolve over time – giving our users the highest yield questions.
